Happy Veterans Day and welcome to the newest edition of the Friday Five! Here’s what we’ve been reading and thinking about this week:

1) Thank a Veteran: Veterans Day 2016

Let’s take a look at some important Veterans Day facts from Forbes. 20% of veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from PTSD or major depression. Women who serve are four times as likely to be homeless than men. Let’s fix this by being informed. Help by knowing the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans (1.877.424.3838). Help by knowing this list of homeless veterans programs. Help by respecting and thanking the veterans you run into.

2) Enjoy: Bicycle Coalition Gives Out 400 Pairs of Bike Lights

On the eve of Election Day, when over 30,000 people stood in line to see Hillary Clinton and President Obama, the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia gave out 400 pairs of bike lights. Regardless of your thoughts on the political outcome, this will help to make Philly a safer cycling city. Some might say it will make Philly great again.

3) Volunteer: Love Your Park

Did your plans tomorrow get cancelled? You’re in luck! The Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks and Rec are hosting Love Your Park Fall Service Day. It’s a part of State of Young Philly and is sure to be a blast (I mean, look at the weather tomorrow!). Give back a little and spend a few hours getting dirty. Oh, and Mayor Kenney will be giving a brief press conference. Sign-up here.

4) Read: Climate Change In Charleston

Constant flooding reaching as high as 9 foot tides have plagued Charleston every Hurricane season. They’re preparing for “hotter, wetter, and more unpredictable climates of the future” by investing in stormwater drainage systems. It’s obvious the climate is changing, but Charleston isn’t focusing on the cause. They’re concerned with the longevity and future of the city and finding ways to prevent excessive flooding damage. This is a good 2:00pm read.

5) Salivate: Dreamy Log Cabins

Join us in salivating over a city escape and landing in one of these dream log cabins. If someone scoops one of these up, we’d love to know about it!

From the Postgreen family, we hope you have a relaxing weekend!
