A New Brand, A New Project: Lokal
Last week we had some really exciting news. We officially introduced a new hospitality brand: Stay Lokal.
Lokal’s first project, the Lokal Hotel located at 139 North Third Street in Old City, Philadelphia, is a boutique hotel featuring “invisible service,” allowing guests to combine the freedom and comfort of living in Philadelphia with the adventure of visiting.
“Invisible service is an approach to hospitality that tries to reduce the barrier between a visitor and the real experience of a place. The idea is to still provide all of those things guests want from a hotel without them feeling like they are leaving the neighborhood and entering something artificial or apart,” says Chad Ludeman, co-founder of Stay Lokal.
The large apartment style suites come with kitchens, living rooms, washer/dryer, and an interior professionally designed by the traveling home makeover duo, Jersey Ice Cream Company.

– FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
New Hotel to Open in Old City in March
Lokal is Philadelphia’s first “invisible service” boutique hotel, combining the freedom and comfort of living in Philadelphia with the adventure of visiting.
OLD CITY, PHILADELPHIA – Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 – Lokal, a 6-unit boutique hotel with a focus on invisible service, is coming to Old City. Featuring six, apartment-style suites, Lokal will offer guests an authentic Philadelphia experience and an escape that feels like home. The hotel will have no front desk. Instead, the team behind the project will anticipate needs and create a high level of behind-the-scenes service. In doing away with many of the trappings of a traditional hotel, Lokal seeks to provide a unique connection with the city without sacrificing the comfort and care travelers expect.
“Invisible service is an approach to hospitality that tries to reduce the barrier between a visitor and the real experience of a place,” says Chad Ludeman, Co-Founder of Stay Lokal, “The idea is to still provide all of those things guests want from a hotel without them feeling like they are leaving the neighborhood and entering something artificial or apart.”
As part of this commitment to the experience, Lokal will provide carefully curated, in-room guidebooks, offering guests local dinner, drink, shopping, and adventure recommendations, which will give unique and honest insights into the city and the neighborhood.
“The inspiration for this project was in our own love of travel and our desire to always do the best of everything when we visit a city,” says Courtney Ludeman, Co-Founder of Stay Lokal. “The in-room guide is a key component. It offers the kind of recommendations you might get from a friend, or a local like us.”
The team behind Postgreen Homes, a real estate development company based in Fishtown, is heading up the development of the innovative new hotel, and they have brought in nationally-acclaimed, traveling, home-makeover duo, Jersey Ice Cream Company to design the project. Jersey Ice Cream Company, famous for their focus on timeless craftsmanship, is bringing their passion for design and careful curation to the rehab of the historic 3rd Street structure.
The bespoke getaway, located at 139 North 3rd Street, is in the heart of Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood. The space honors the history of the neighborhood, its vibrancy and its distinctly Philly feeling. The building, previously the Silicon Gallery, has a rich history. Past owners have crafted caps for Civil War soldiers, sold wholesale fancy dry goods, distributed liquor, whiskies, and other bitters, and sold wholesale shoes. Lokal is retaining much of the interior and exterior aesthetic of this registered historic building to bring out the stories of people who lived and worked there.
The units, designed for both long and short-term guests, will feature separate bedrooms, full kitchens, washer/dryers and living rooms curated with locally crafted and hand-picked furnishings and amenities. It will be the perfect homebase for visiting business people, vacationing families and friends, and the Philadelphia couple that needs a night of new perspective on their own city.
Lokal will start to accept bookings and guests as early as February and March, respectively. Stay tuned for more information about the upcoming soft opening and high res images of the fully built out suites.
